Private Plans Defined

Private Plans

Individual and Family Private Plans are available from Via Benefits directly through insurance carriers. Private plans, like Marketplace plans, are major medical, Affordable Care Act-compliant plans sold outside of the government-run Health Insurance Marketplaces.

Private plans offer the same consumer protections as Marketplace plans, such as guarantee issue, enrollment period rules, and no medical underwriting.

Enrolling in a Private plan doesn't give you the opportunity to apply for a Premium Tax Credit (PTC), but Private plans can be paired with a Health Reimbursement Arrangement (HRA) if available. Federal regulations don’t allow for both an HRA and a PTC at the same time.
